LFG Laboratory

Our missions

The LFG is the world's oldest gemmological laboratory, founded in 1929 by the Chambre Syndicale du Diamant.

The Laboratoire Français de Gemmologie (LFG) became part of the Union BJOP in 2011 and continues its mission of providing the public with independent gem expertise for the information and safety of consumers.

Now located in the heart of Paris, in the 2nd arrondissement, the LFG is the only one in France to provide analysis reports on all gems,

diamonds, coloured stones and pearls, in terms of their identity (naturalness, treatment), their shape, their characteristics (4C gradation for diamonds), their colours and their geographical origin.

In parallel, the LFG is involved in in-depth gemmological research in collaboration with universities, putting forward high-level technological support.
