Enchantment of the Earth…

These colored sapphires from Songea, Tanzania, caught the attention of our gemologists, with their atypical inclusions, those of pyrope garnets. A rare phenomenon!

Inclusions provide clues to geologic and sometimes geographic origin. It is common to find garnet inclusions in diamonds (formed in the upper mantle or eclogite source rock) but rarely in colored sapphires, mainly found in secondary deposits, marble type rocks, alkali basalts or metamorphic amphibolites. According to the scientific study carried out by our gemologists, the formation of these sapphires with inclusions of pyrope garnet might have been formed in the upper mantle or eclogite, like an enchantment.

Do these sapphires also attract your curiosity? We invite you to read the scientific article published in the Journal of Raman Spectrocopy 2023 ;1-7, written by Stefanos Karampelas, Ugo Hennebois, Danilo Bersani, Aurélien Delaunay and Emmanuel Fritsch.
