We often look for very rare diamonds with ‘flawless’ / ‘internally flawless’ clarity, however inclusions are indicators of naturalness, tracing the environment in which gems were formed.
Some inclusions can even be quite beautiful, like this 0.23 ct colourless diamond from Diamprest, where inclusions of diopside and pyralspar garnet were observed and confirmed by Raman scattering spectrometry.
These marvellous and rare inclusions bear witness to the genetic environment of diamonds, and to the history of the Earth… as recounted by Shams Addioui and Aurélien Delaunay in the article “Au cœur des gemmes” – revue de l’association Gemmologie & Francophonie N°5, printemps 2025.
